Murray Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia fluviatilis)

The Rainbow fish is a small fish growing to around 10 cm, it's colours vary from grey to a greenish hue. Males display bright red fins during the spawning season in spring/summer. They are an active schooling fish feeding on a wide range of invertebrates and algae and is an important predator of mosquito larvae. Tranlocated from the River Murray and is a popular aquarium fish.
