Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)
The Rainbow trout can grow up to 70cm long, and was introduced into Australia from New Zealand in the 1890's (this stock originated from California). Has a higher temperature tolerance than Brown trout. which may explain why it is able to establish self sustaining populations in the Adelaide region. Feeds on a wide range of aquatic insects, crustaceans, molluscs, terrestrial insects and fishes.
